WINGS - WILD BARK TANNED LEATHER SHEEPSKIN

WINGS is a Icelandic x Shetland sheepskin. The hide is handmade, naturally tanned, using fat and smoke methods. The wool is short and dense as he was tanned not long after shearing,  with colours of black, grey and white. This is reduced because the leather is second grade and not as soft as i'd like it to be. It will soften over time, it als o has a small amount of hair loss, which isnt visible, but is reflected in the price.  The size is 125cm x 100cm and brings the true essence of "WILD" to your home. 
 
Honouring the life of the sheep and the ancient art of hide tanning by bringing back the spirit of the animal through this endangered craft. The colours of the wool are exceptional multi colours of charcoal, silver, copper/red and Black. The leather is soft around the edges but harder towards the centre, and not as soft as i'd liked.. but it does soften over time with use. It doesn't detract from the quality of the fleece or exceptional colour and texture. The size approx 105cm x 90cm long.
 
This sheepskin would make the perfect fireside rug, within a yurt, tipi or shepherds hut. Also draped over the sofa, or perhaps by the bedside. I also have customers who use these for wild camping as they are do much warmer than synthetic and very light to carry. They have also been used for horse saddle mats and cool motorbike seat covers!
 
*Note: This is a traceable hide, ethically reared and not mass produced. It has been carefully cured, tanned, stretched and oiled by my own hands using traditional, ancient methods and no chemicals or machines. The sheepskin will also have a more tangible, aged and rustic look and feel to it as this is not a commercially produced product. This is a rare and disappearing craft that I hope finds it’s way into your home!
